Sleeping made more comfy.

A pregnancy pillow is something every pregnant lady should own. If you have never seen a pregnancy pillow, it is a pillow that is as long as your body and in the shape of a sausage. A pregnancy pillow will not only give you great comfort in helping you sleep, but you can use it as a floor mat, sofa cushion and you can even take it with you when you go on a trip. This gives you peace of mind that no matter where you are, you will be able to rest in comfort when you are feeling tired.

When your belly starts to expand and become heavier, it is not comfortable to lie on your side due to the weight of your belly pulling your side down. You might not be able to lie on your back either and a conventional pillow might not be sufficient to give you maximum comfort. We need to be comfortable to be able to fall asleep. Many women find it difficult to fall asleep when they are pregnant. If they do manage to fall asleep, it is not always easy to stay asleep. Using a pregnancy pillow should make it easy to fall asleep and to stay asleep. You will probably still feel the need to urinate frequently which will get you up during the night. Try to drink less fluid before going to bed to alleviate this. Do make sure that you stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluid during the day time.

The pregnancy pillow is also a great way to reduce pregnancy back pain. Backache in early pregnancy is a result of hormones preparing your body for childbirth. The ligaments that attach the pelvic bone to the spine are loosened by your hormones. You might experience this backache when walking, bending or even standing. Later on in your pregnancy when your uterus is getting bigger and pushing upwards, your abdominal muscles weaken putting more strain on your back. Another cause of back pain in pregnancy is if the baby pushes on your pelvic bone, which in turn pushes on sciatic nerves. You might even experience feelings of weakness or numbness in your legs as a result of this.

Pregnancy pillows provide support for your head, neck, shoulders, back, abdomen and legs. If you sleep on your side with your head resting on the pregnancy pillow and your legs on each side of the pillow, it will give you great comfort if you are suffering with back pain. A good idea is to invest in two pregnancy pillows. You can lie on your side with one pillow supporting your abdomen and the other behind your back preventing you from rolling over during the night. If you are relaxing during the day, you can place these pillows beneath your knees with your legs elevated. This will help ease the tension and swelling in your legs.

You might even find that you will use these pillows long after your pregnancy because of the amount of comfort they bring. Your partner will more than likely get use out of them too.
