Choosing a bottle for your baby

Every parent wants the best for their child, so before you begin to use a baby bottle or change from a plastic bottle to a glass bottle, find out what your best options are. Are glass baby bottles safe?

More and more parents in recent times are making the change from plastic baby bottles to glass baby bottles. Studies have shown that the chemical bisphenol-A, which is found in plastics, travels from polycarbonate bottles to the milk. This chemical has been shown to damage hormonal systems in females and males, which can contribute to cancers and reproductive diseases. Polycarbonate is the shiny, clear, glass-looking hard plastic that is used in making the baby bottles. As we know, a baby’s body and organs are still growing and developing, so these toxins will affect a baby more than they would an adult. For this reason, it would be safer to use a glass baby bottle.

Some might argue that there are dangers of glass bottles too. You might need to replace the glass bottles at some stage as they might get chipped. Glass can break and it is heavier. There are silicone sleeves available that you can keep the glass bottle in. This will prevent the bottle from breaking if your baby were to drop it or if your toddler perhaps were to throw it! They are available in colours, which will stimulate your baby too.

Whatever you choose for your baby, make sure to look for products without added chemicals, plastics or colours.
