The use of baby oil for dry skin will help to combat the problem of dry skin. Baby oil after bathing will help to lock in moisture and help to nourish skin. If you want smooth supple skin then a good tip is to apply baby oil when wet as it is absorbed into the skin easier that way. The make of baby oil shouldn’t matter as the properties of the oil will be the same. A well known brand for baby oil is Johnson’s baby oil which is a brand that has been around for years. Baby products can and are generally used by adults and mom’s especially. The problem with infant skin as apposed to mature skin is that it absorbs moisture quicker as baby’s skin is thinner than adult skin.
Most of us at some time or another have experienced the problem of dry skin mostly in the winter months. It is important to have a daily moisturising routine all year round to help alleviate this problem. There are a multitude of lotions and potions on the market that promise the world in terms of skin care some cost the earth, some don’t. Do not always presume that because a product costs more it will work better in most cases the opposite it true. Simple solutions such as baby oil for dry skin or cocoa butter will work as well if not better than designer brands. The key is trial and error start with the cheaper end products and if they don’t work then work your way up the ladder of expensive products.
Infants like adults will have areas that are more prone to dry skin such as elbows knees ankles and with babies the diaper area. Regular cleansing of the affected areas and daily moisturising will help. Along with the use of baby oil for dry skin you can also use hypoallergenic cleansing products without any harsh chemicals. When washing avoid fragranced soaps or shower gels opt instead for perfume free alternatives. Organic cleansing products are very affective but will cost a lot more than convenience products. There are many different skin conditions which will affect your skin such as:
(1) Heat Rash This looks like small pimples and can affect both babies and adults.
Cleansing regularly wearing loose clothing and not over heating can eliminate this easily
(2) Eczema which will resemble scalded looking scaly red skin. Regular cleansing and the use of emollients such as Oilatum will have a positive affect, also the use of hydrocortisone products.
(3) Baby acne will look like small red pimples usually on the face. This is due to a percentage of mom’s hormones being present in baby. This gradually disappears after a couple of weeks
(4) Cradle cap or chaffing which can affect adults can be decreased by wearing loose cotton clothing. Always be aware of changes in habit such as changing washing detergent or fabric softener or shower gels as this can trigger skin complaints.
